Imagine going from managing a multimillion-dollar company to whiling your days away in federal prison. For Michael Lowecki, it seems like a nightmare, but it is his reality.

Lowecki is living his dream life. His landscaping business has made him a multimillionaire, and he has a wife and two children he absolutely adores. The dream swiftly and shockingly turns into this nightmare.

After an FBI probe, Lowecki is federally indicted and sent to Leavenworth, Kansas, to serve his prison term. Lowecki has read up on life in prison, but nothing could have prepared him for the actual experience. He encounters unbelievable violence and even death as Prisoner #18099-424. Both the guards and his fellow inmates have the power to make his life a living hell. At the same time, Lowecki’s wife and children are facing their own challenges.

Learn how Lowecki survives his prison sentence and follow him back out into the real world. Lowecki may be free, but he finds himself in a different kind of prison. In this intense memoir, he chronicles his life both on the inside and on the outside of the penitentiary system.

You sometimes hear that a few wrong turns can land you in prison--that it can happen to anyone. But I admit, I never thought something like that could happen to me or anyone I considered to be an upstanding citizen. This book disabused me of that notion. It CAN happen to you, and it DID happen to Michael Lowecki. He was "living the dream," having turned a high-school landscaping job into a multi-million dollar business. But contracts with the city of Chicago or any government entity aren't like contacts in the private sector. You can't wine and dine the way you might do to your other good customers. That was one wrong turn. You can't trust people when they ask you to deviate from normal payment arrangements, even when the reason for it sounds perfectly legitimate. Another wrong turn. And you can't afford to go before a judge with a blind plea when the judge wants to make an example of you. A very wrong turn. Mr. Lowecki paid heavily for these mistakes: he served time in Leavenworth Penitentiary.

Mr. Lowecki's story is well-told. He takes us on his personal journey. We learn how he met and courted the love of his life, how he questioned his own work ethic when he brother suffered a heart attack, how he continued to trust even when a nagging voice inside made him wonder if his trust was justified. By the time it all starts going south, we feel like we know the author. He's a good guy, someone you'd like to have as a neighbor. In fact, the whole family seems like they'd be nice neighbors. All the more reason that the horror of Leavenworth is at first hard to believe but then becomes all too real.

The author describes prison life so vividly that I found myself feeling edgy the whole time. You can't afford any wrong turns here; the stakes are too high, both with the prisoners and the guards. And life after prison doesn't give the warm, fuzzy feeling you crave so badly at this point in the book. You realize that what happened to the author could happen to any of us--that's what's so compelling and downright scary about his story.

I recommend you read the book. Your sensibilities will be offended, but you won't be disappointed.

Great story and very scary. Could happen to anyone in business especially in Chicago!
Mike did an outstanding job on this book. The dialogue , verbiage , compassion are all above approach. I enjoyed reading it so much I'm reading it a second time. The vitals that are in this book give one an up close look at our justice system , the things we would not know otherwise. Thank you Mike for sharing your story .I applaud your courage and integrity!! Cheryl Saraf
This book is incredible and I couldn't put it down. I kept saying to myself "wow" and the book kept me wanting more. This story is a true testament of how a man can persevere through all the struggles that had come his way and in the end he was able to be with his family.
This book was spectacular! one of those books you find hard to put down. It was obviously written from the heart! The author really did a great job of painting a picture of life on the inside, At times I felt like i truly was experiencing things with him. I know that it would be impossible to really know what a living hell he must have went through but he did a great job of getting the reader there. Well done Michael this should be a movie someday!
Growing up in Chicago and admittedly getting summer jobs (both my husband and I as well as so many of our friends) based on who we or our families knew within the city or CPD I never thought twice about it. I was always aware of such "goings on" but never paid attention. This book is utterly amazing as to how easy and innocently one individual could get caught in the trap. Caught he was but his genuine (sometimes challenged) integrity won out. I truly believe his faith and love and support of family is what got him through this horrific ordeal. I HIGHLY recommend this book as it puts the real meaning of life and living back into perspective.
This is a great true story of the strength of character of an honest and decent hard working self made business man, who gets caught up in the corrupt Chicago machine. A true story that mirrors old time fables such as David and Goliath. You want to build a good, honest, successful business? Be careful what you wish for. Mike's book is open and transparent. The book is a page turner from cover to cover. This is a well thought out and well written book; a must read. Don't mss this one.
This story gave me the shivers, to think what can happen to even a law abiding citizen once the FBI make up their mind to target a person. At the end of this story, I was hoping to know what happened to Dan & Ada? Were they punishment, or did they get off scot free?
